Healthcare AI search is dominated by a small group of highly influential domains.
More and more digital journeys now begin with a question typed directly into an AI platform. But when an AI platform answers a healthcare question, where does that answer come from, and which organisations influence the narrative the user sees?
Our latest report, ‘The Healthcare AI Citation Index 2026: Who does AI trust?’, analyses 160 healthcare-specific prompts across ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude. The prompts cover three audience types (healthcare professionals, patients and the general public) and four topic areas: pharma and prescribing, private care and pathways, lifestyle and preventative health, and early awareness searches.
The result is a very different AI search landscape for healthcare. Citations concentrate around institutional health systems, government and regulatory bodies, academic literature and established healthcare publishers. User-generated sources such as Reddit and Wikipedia did not appear as cited sources at all.
In this report you will discover more about:
- Which domains are cited most often for patient, healthcare professional and generic queries
- How ChatGPT and Gemini cite very different sources, and why YouTube appeared in 31% of ChatGPT responses
- Why the way a question is asked changes the sources AI chooses
- How a ‘Big Three’ of consumer health publishers dominate early-stage healthcare search
- Why regulators and industry databases, such as the CQC and HFEA, can influence AI visibility for private healthcare
- How to build authority beyond your own domain
