Get Set: Tracking consumer, patient and clinician digital interactions through a tailored data infrastructure

An audit tells you where your tracking is failing. Get Set is where that gets fixed, moving from diagnosis to a technical setup built specifically for how patients and HCPs actually interact with your platforms, rather than the generic pageview-and-click tracking most sites launch with.

Where default setups leave healthcare data behind

A standard Google Analytics install is a starting point, not a finished setup, and the gaps it leaves matter more in healthcare than most sectors:

  • Complex or custom GA4 queries frequently trigger data sampling, so you’re looking at estimates rather than raw figures
  • Client-side scripts are routinely blocked by ad blockers and browser privacy controls, silently dropping legitimate conversions
  • Firing multiple tags in-browser slows page load, pushing visitors away before they engage, particularly costly on symptom-checker or booking-heavy pages

We only recommend the advanced fixes below where they make clear commercial sense for your specific setup and traffic, not as a default upsell.

Bespoke tracking

We build custom GA4 and GTM configurations around your actual user journeys rather than generic events. In a typical patient journey, someone might engage with a symptom-checker, read about a diagnostic or treatment service, and eventually reach a clinic locator or booking form. Standard analytics treats these as disconnected events; bespoke tracking maps the full sequence, so you can see how early-stage educational content connects to later conversions, and prove the ROI of that content.

Server-side tracking

Moving tracking from the browser to a secure server container recovers data that browser-based blocks routinely lose. This matters specifically for HCP audiences: healthcare professionals frequently access clinical or pharmaceutical platforms from secure hospital networks or locked-down devices, where standard client-side tracking often fails to capture the interaction at all. Server-side tracking lets you compliantly capture this high-value audience without compromising security.

BigQuery integration

Standard GA4 reporting often relies on sampled data. Connecting directly to BigQuery gives you the raw, unsampled dataset. This is particularly relevant for specialised, lower-traffic platforms like dedicated HCP portals or niche patient support hubs, where naturally lower event volumes make sampling especially disruptive to accurate reporting. BigQuery removes that restriction entirely.

What this looked like for one client

A specialist publishing network relying on membership sign-ups was missing nearly 30% of registrations in standard client-side tracking, compared against internal CRM records. Server-side tracking and BigQuery brought that gap from 29.41% down to 4.5%, recovering 94% of verified leads, alongside a 21% increase in page views and total users that browser-based tracking had been hiding entirely. Watch the video below for a walkthrough of Step 2.
